grandma's chocolate chip cookies

This is a recipe that was found handwritten on a recipe card stuck between the pages of one of my grandmother's old cookbooks. My mother has been using this recipe since 1977 when she first found it.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package milk chocolate chips

How To Make grandma's chocolate chip cookies

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Step 2
    In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, shortening, brown and regular sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.
  • Step 3
    In another bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda and salt. Add dry mixture slowly to the wet mixture and mix until well-blended.
  • Step 4
    Stir in chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans if desired. Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Drop onto greased or parchment lined cookie sheets, leaving 1 1/2 to 2 inches between cookies.
  • Step 6
    Bake at 375 for 8 - 10 minutes or till done. Remove from cookie sheet and place to cool on wire rack.
