This is a recipe that was found handwritten on a recipe card stuck between the pages of one of my grandmother's old cookbooks. My mother has been using this recipe since 1977 when she first found it.

Ingredients

1/2 c
butter, softened
1/2 c
shortening
1 c
packed brown sugar
1/2 c
sugar

eggs
1 1/2 tsp
vanilla
2 1/2 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
salt
1 pkg
milk chocolate chips

How to Make Grandma's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • 2In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, shortening, brown and regular sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.
  • 3In another bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda and salt. Add dry mixture slowly to the wet mixture and mix until well-blended.
  • 4Stir in chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans if desired. Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • 5Drop onto greased or parchment lined cookie sheets, leaving 1 1/2 to 2 inches between cookies.
  • 6Bake at 375 for 8 - 10 minutes or till done. Remove from cookie sheet and place to cool on wire rack.
