This is a recipe that was found handwritten on a recipe card stuck between the pages of one of my grandmother's old cookbooks. My mother has been using this recipe since 1977 when she first found it.

  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 1/2 c
  • 1 c
    packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
  • 2
  • 1 1/2 tsp
  • 2 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 pkg
    milk chocolate chips

How to Make Grandma's Chocolate Chip Cookies


  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, shortening, brown and regular sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda and salt. Add dry mixture slowly to the wet mixture and mix until well-blended.
  4. Stir in chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans if desired. Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Drop onto greased or parchment lined cookie sheets, leaving 1 1/2 to 2 inches between cookies.
  6. Bake at 375 for 8 - 10 minutes or till done. Remove from cookie sheet and place to cool on wire rack.
