My mother made these for my six brothers and myself when we were children. When my mother passed in 2006 this was one of the recipes they recalled with fond memory and asked if anyone had the recipe

Ingredients
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup brown sugar firmly packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 large egg separated
- 1/4 cup walnuts finely chopped
- 1/4 cup pecans finely chopped
How To Make double nut bars

Step 1Sift together flour,baking powder and salt. Set aside

Step 2Cream butter,shortening,brown sugar and vanilla. Beat in egg yolk.

Step 3Mix in dry ingredient with a spatula. Spread over bottom of lightly greased jelly roll pan.

Step 4Beat egg white until frothy. Spread over dough. Sprinkle one half with walnuts, the other with the pecans, or mix if you like.Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned.Cool slightly on wire rack. Cut into bars with sharp knife.remove to wire rack to finish cooling. STORE IN TIGHTLY COVERED CONTAINER
