Have mercy, this is so good! This recipe is different from other gooey treat recipes you may have seen because I use a whole bag of chocolate chips. You might want to have the recipe handy if you share it with anyone because they will probably ask for it.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
Oh my... this is a heavenly dessert. These dessert bars taste like a cross between a really good chocolate chip cookie and a gooey butter bar. The cream cheese filling is creamy and a slight crust forms on top. They're made with ingredients you probably have handy in the kitchen. Which is great, because they're delicious and you'll want to make these often.
Preheat oven to 350 F and place rack in the center position.
Lightly butter or spray a 9"x13" casserole dish or baking pan.
Pour cake mix into mixing bowl. Add egg and melted butter. Mix until well combined. (Using an electric hand mixer is easiest.) The batter will be the consistency of loose Play-Doh.
Scrape batter into prepared casserole or pan. Using the scraper to get the bowl and beaters as clean as possible.
Put the beaters in the bowl and set aside for later (mixing the filling).
Using clean hands, press the dough evenly into bottom of the pan; set aside.
In the used mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy.
Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla; beat until very well combined.
With mixer at low to medium-low speed, very gradually add powdered sugar until thoroughly combined.
Gradually add melted butter (1 stick) and mix well.
Add 1 bag of chocolate chips and mix well.
Pour filling mixture over crust batter and spread evenly.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 to 45 minutes (all ovens differ, my oven takes 45 mins.) It will still be jiggly.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 2 hours before cutting.
