Have mercy, this is so good! This recipe is different from other gooey treat recipes you may have seen because I use a whole bag of chocolate chips. You might want to have the recipe handy if you share it with anyone because they will probably ask for it.

Oh my... this is a heavenly dessert. These dessert bars taste like a cross between a really good chocolate chip cookie and a gooey butter bar. The cream cheese filling is creamy and a slight crust forms on top. They're made with ingredients you probably have handy in the kitchen. Which is great, because they're delicious and you'll want to make these often.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CRUST:
  • 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 stick salted butter, melted (8 tablespoons)
  • FOR THE FILLING:
  • 1 package cream cheese (8 ounce), room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 box powdered sugar (16 ounces)
  • 1 stick salted butter, melted (8 tablespoons)
  • 1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 ounces)

How To Make chocochip gooey treats

  • Oven preheating.
    Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 F and place rack in the center position.
  • Greased baking dish on a counter.
    Step 2
    Lightly butter or spray a 9"x13" casserole dish or baking pan.
  • Cake mix, egg, and melted butter combined in a bowl.
    Step 3
    Pour cake mix into mixing bowl. Add egg and melted butter. Mix until well combined. (Using an electric hand mixer is easiest.) The batter will be the consistency of loose Play-Doh.
  • Batter poured into greased baking dish.
    Step 4
    Scrape batter into prepared casserole or pan. Using the scraper to get the bowl and beaters as clean as possible.
  • Setting aside the mixing bowl.
    Step 5
    Put the beaters in the bowl and set aside for later (mixing the filling).
  • Pressing batter into the pan.
    Step 6
    Using clean hands, press the dough evenly into bottom of the pan; set aside.
  • Cream cheese mixed until fluffy.
    Step 7
    In the used mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy.
  • Eggs and vanilla mixed into cream cheese.
    Step 8
    Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla; beat until very well combined.
  • Slowly adding powdered sugar to cream cheese.
    Step 9
    With mixer at low to medium-low speed, very gradually add powdered sugar until thoroughly combined.
  • Mixing in melted butter.
    Step 10
    Gradually add melted butter (1 stick) and mix well.
  • Chocolate chips added to the batter.
    Step 11
    Add 1 bag of chocolate chips and mix well.
  • Batter poured over the crust.
    Step 12
    Pour filling mixture over crust batter and spread evenly.
  • Baking dish in the oven.
    Step 13
    Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 to 45 minutes (all ovens differ, my oven takes 45 mins.) It will still be jiggly.
  • Chocochip Gooey Treats cooling.
    Step 14
    Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 2 hours before cutting.
