preheat oven to 350.
In large bowl, cream butter, oil and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add dry pudding mix and beat until well blended.
In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. gradually add to creamed mixture and beat til well incorporated.
spoon batter into 1 inch balls and roll into granulated or colored sugar. place balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten with a glass.
Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned.
