Careful with how much flavoring you add, some may take more or less than others. I used a bit to much cinnamon in one batch it was okay for me but too hot for some. And the grape flavoring I had to add more .

food coloring

How to Make Hard Tack Candy


  • 1Add sugar, syrup, and water to a saucepan.
  • 2Boil until thermometer reaches 300-310° . If no thermometer, once a rolling boil stir with fork and let some drip into a cup of cold water if it crackles its good to go.
  • 3Remove from heat and add flavoring and food coloring .
  • 4Pour the liquid into a greased cookie sheet.
  • 5Let harden , break into pieces and mix with powdered sugar.
