1Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and beat until fluffy.
2Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add alternately with buttermilk.
3Dissolve baking soda in warm water and add to batter. Mix well.
4Bake at 350 degrees in greased and floured round cake pans for 35 minutes or until cake tests done.
