An old family favorite... This recipe makes its own crust and has the other two parts of a shoo fly pie -- the cake and the goo. If you like shoo fly pie, you'll like this!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb
    light brown sugar
  • 1/2 lb
    margarine or butter, softened
  • 4 c
    flour
  • 2 c
    turkey golden table syrup
  • 2 c
    boiling water
  • 2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt

How to Make Shoo Fly Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix first 3 ingredients into small crumbs, reserving 2 cups for the top.
  2. Tightly press the remainder into the bottom of a sprayed 13x9 pan.
  3. Stir together the syrup, water, baking soda and salt. Pour onto the crumb layer.
  4. Top with the reserved crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until tops springs back like a regular cake.
