Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup dark karo syrup
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/8 -1/4 teaspoon (pinch) salt
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons allspice, ground
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 - egg
How To Make maw maw's gingerbread

Step 1Mix flour and spices together.

Step 2In separate bowl, pour hot water over soda. Mix.

Step 3Add remaining ingredients to the flour mixture, then add water mixture. Mix until well blended. Pour into lightly greased 8'x8' square cake pan. Bake at 350F for approximately 25 minutes until toothpick inserted in cake comes out clean.
