This is my favorite pound cake. The recipe has been in our family for years.

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
dash of salt
2 1/2 cups sugar
3 sticks butter, softened
4 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon lemon extract

How to Make Lemon-Buttermilk Pound Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a 10" bundt or tube pan. Combine flour, soda and salt; set aside. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Add lemon extract. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
