  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

How To Make iowa chocolate cake

  • Step 1
    Cover shortening and sugar with boiling water. Add flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt, eggs and vanilla. And blend well. Bake at 375 degrees, 25-30 minutes in a 13x9-inch pan. Batter is thin. Test for doneness with toothpick. Makes 4-6 servings.
