My grandmother's recipe which was brought to every family gathering I can remember as a child. Still the best!

Ingredients

1 1/2 c
sugar
1/2 c
butter, softened
2 large
eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 c
flour
1/2 tsp
nutmeg (or mace)
1/2 tsp
salt
1 tsp
baking soda
3 Tbsp
sour milk
1 tsp
vanilla
1 c
ripe bananas, mashed

How to Make Grandma's Banana Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees; grease and flour a 9 x 11 inch cake pan.
  • 2Cream together butter and sugar.
  • 3Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each egg.
  • 4Sift together flour, nutmeg OR mace, and salt. Add to wet mixture and mix well.
  • 5Dissolve baking soda in sour milk. (You can add a 1/4 teaspoon of white vinegar to the milk to sour it if you don't have sour milk on hand.) Add to batter.
  • 6Mix in mashed bananas and vanilla.
  • 7Bake in 350 degree oven in a 9 x 11 inch cake pan for 45 minutes. Frost with cream cheese frosting.
