My grandmother's recipe which was brought to every family gathering I can remember as a child. Still the best!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (or mace)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup ripe bananas, mashed

How To Make grandma's banana cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees; grease and flour a 9 x 11 inch cake pan.
  • Step 2
    Cream together butter and sugar.
  • Step 3
    Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each egg.
  • Step 4
    Sift together flour, nutmeg OR mace, and salt. Add to wet mixture and mix well.
  • Step 5
    Dissolve baking soda in sour milk. (You can add a 1/4 teaspoon of white vinegar to the milk to sour it if you don't have sour milk on hand.) Add to batter.
  • Step 6
    Mix in mashed bananas and vanilla.
  • Step 7
    Bake in 350 degree oven in a 9 x 11 inch cake pan for 45 minutes. Frost with cream cheese frosting.
