My grandmother's recipe which was brought to every family gathering I can remember as a child. Still the best!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 2 large
    eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg (or mace)
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 3 Tbsp
    sour milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 c
    ripe bananas, mashed

How to Make Grandma's Banana Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees; grease and flour a 9 x 11 inch cake pan.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each egg.
  4. Sift together flour, nutmeg OR mace, and salt. Add to wet mixture and mix well.
  5. Dissolve baking soda in sour milk. (You can add a 1/4 teaspoon of white vinegar to the milk to sour it if you don't have sour milk on hand.) Add to batter.
  6. Mix in mashed bananas and vanilla.
  7. Bake in 350 degree oven in a 9 x 11 inch cake pan for 45 minutes. Frost with cream cheese frosting.
