Homemade German Chocolate cake is the best especially with homemade icing still warm from the stove top yummy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar, granulated
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 package bakers german sweet chocolate squares
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large egg whites

How To Make german chocolate cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350
  • Step 2
    Cream sugar and shortening together
  • Step 3
    mix dry ingredients together and then add to creamed mixture
  • Step 4
    Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup of boiling water and then add to cake
  • Step 5
    Add buttermilk and vanilla
  • Step 6
    Now lastly add 3 beaten egg whites
  • Step 7
    pour into 2, 9 inch greased and floured cake pans and bake 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Do not over bake.
  • Step 8
    Then ice with homemade boiled icing with coconut and chopped pecans
