Ingredients

2 c
sugar, granulated
1 c
vegetable shortening
2 1/2 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
baking soda
1 pkg
bakers german sweet chocolate squares
1 c
buttermilk
1 tsp
vanilla extract
3 large
egg whites

How to Make German Chocolate Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 350
  • 2Cream sugar and shortening together
  • 3mix dry ingredients together and then add to creamed mixture
  • 4Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup of boiling water and then add to cake
  • 5Add buttermilk and vanilla
  • 6Now lastly add 3 beaten egg whites
  • 7pour into 2, 9 inch greased and floured cake pans and bake 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Do not over bake.
  • 8Then ice with homemade boiled icing with coconut and chopped pecans
