Everyone in my family loves this sheet cake, it's especially popular for birthdays.

Ingredients

  • CAKE BATTER
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • FROSTING
  • 1 stick butter
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 16 ounces powdered sugar
  • 1 cup nuts (optional)

How To Make chocolate sheet cake

  • Step 1
    Mix first five ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Step 2
    In 2 qt sauce pan, combine water, cocoa, butter and shortening. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 3
    Pour hot chocolate mixture over dry ingredients and blend. Add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and blend.
  • Step 4
    Bake at 400 for 20 minutes in greased 11x16 pan.
  • Step 5
    FROSTING: Frost while cake is still hot. -Boil butter, cocoa, and milk in a sauce pan. -Remove from heat, add vanilla and powdered sugar. Blend. -Stir in nuts (optional).
