buttercream icing
This is a basic vanilla buttercream icing that I have been using for over 35 plus years. It is the base for all different flavored icings that I use on various baking goods.

Ingredients
- - ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- - ½ cup crisco
- - ¼ cup whole milk
- - 4 cups powdered sugar
- - 1 teaspoon vanilla
How To Make buttercream icing
-
Step 1In a mixing bowl, with mixer on medium speed, cream the softened butter and Crisco until well blended.
-
Step 2Add the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Beat mixture until light and fluffy; about 2-3 minutes. If icing appears a little too thick, add just a tad more milk; one teaspoon at a time. You do not want it too soft. You want a medium consistency.
-
Step 3Chocolate Buttercream Icing: add 2 Tablespoons of Cocoa with the powdered sugar.
