Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 - large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1 1/2 cups applesauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup raisins (soaked for 5 minutes in boiling water and drained)
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, optional
How To Make applesauce cake

Step 1Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla.

Step 2Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with applesauce and water.

Step 3Stir in raisins and nuts.

Step 4Bake in prepared layer pans at 350 degrees for 30 - 40 minutes or until they test done when inserting a toothpick. Can also be baked in a ring, 13x9 or loaf pans.

Step 5Frost with buttercream frosting.
