12 - 15, depending on pan
raisins (soaked for 5 minutes in boiling water and drained)
chopped walnuts or pecans, optional
1Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla.
2Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with applesauce and water.
3Stir in raisins and nuts.
4Bake in prepared layer pans at 350 degrees for 30 - 40 minutes or until they test done when inserting a toothpick. Can also be baked in a ring, 13x9 or loaf pans.
5Frost with buttercream frosting.
