Thumb print cookies were favorites of mine. Grandma W made hers filled with jelly, Mom made hers filled with frosting. Personally, both are good, but I like frosting that dries and doesn't make as much of a mess when I eat them!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
  • 1 - egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanlla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup nuts, crushed

How To Make thumb print cookies, grandma w

  • Step 1
    Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt. Roll into 1" balls, drop into lightly beaten egg white and roll in nuts. Place 1" apart on cookie sheets and bake 5 min at 375 degrees. Remove from oven to press thumb print in the center of each. Return to oven and bake 8 min more. Fill thumb prints with jelly.
