This recipe was in an old booklet put out for the holidays by the Bordon Company. I found it in my late daughter-in-law's files. Enjoy! Photo: cookiemadness.net

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 - egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup cold butter
  • 3/4 cup chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds)
  • 24 - caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 can (14 oz.) eagle brand sweetened condensed milk

How To Make streusel caramel bars

  • Step 1
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and egg; cut in 1/2 cup butter until crumbly. Stir in nuts.
  • Step 2
Reserving 2 cups crumb mixture, press remainder firmly on bottom of greased 13x9-inch baking pan.
  • Step 3
Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 15 minutes.
  • Step 4
Meanwhile, in a heavy saucepan, over low heat, melt caramels with sweetened condensed milk and remaining 1/4 cup butter. Pour over prepared crust. Top with reserved crumb mixture. Bake an additional 20 minutes or until bubbly.
  • Step 5
Cool. Cut into bars. Store loosely covered at room temperature.
