If you have never had a snickerdoodle, you are in for a treat. These crunchy, crinkly topped light spicy rounds are great with coffee, tea or a cold glass of milk. My mother and late husband would fight over these cookies!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup crisco shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups flour (sifted)
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • TOPPING MIXTURE
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

How To Make snickerdoodles

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 400 degrees In a large mixing bowl mix thoroughly shortening, butter, sugar and eggs
  • Step 2
    Sift together and stir into mixture in large bowl, flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
  • Step 3
    Mix 2 Tbsp sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon in a small custard dish.
  • Step 4
    Roll dough into balls the size of small walnuts and roll the dough ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Step 5
    Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned but still soft. About 10 to 12 minutes NOTE: These cookies puff up at first and then flatten out.
