If you have never had a snickerdoodle, you are in for a treat. These crunchy, crinkly topped light spicy rounds are great with coffee, tea or a cold glass of milk. My mother and late husband would fight over these cookies!

Makes about 5 dozen cookies
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup crisco shortening
- 1/2 cup butter (softened)
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 3/4 cups flour (sifted)
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- TOPPING MIXTURE
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
How To Make snickerdoodles

Step 1Preheat oven to 400 degrees In a large mixing bowl mix thoroughly shortening, butter, sugar and eggs

Step 2Sift together and stir into mixture in large bowl, flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

Step 3Mix 2 Tbsp sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon in a small custard dish.

Step 4Roll dough into balls the size of small walnuts and roll the dough ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Step 5Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned but still soft. About 10 to 12 minutes NOTE: These cookies puff up at first and then flatten out.
