If you have never had a snickerdoodle, you are in for a treat. These crunchy, crinkly topped light spicy rounds are great with coffee, tea or a cold glass of milk. My mother and late husband would fight over these cookies!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    crisco shortening
  • 1/2 c
    butter (softened)
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 large
    eggs
  • 2 3/4 c
    flour (sifted)
  • 2 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • TOPPING MIXTURE

  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon

How to Make SNICKERDOODLES

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
    In a large mixing bowl mix thoroughly shortening, butter, sugar and eggs
  2. Sift together and stir into mixture in large bowl, flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
  3. Mix 2 Tbsp sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon in a small custard dish.
  4. Roll dough into balls the size of small walnuts and roll the dough ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  5. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned but still soft. About 10 to 12 minutes
    NOTE: These cookies puff up at first and then flatten out.
