These are made in a 15" X 10" jelly roll pan,so it makes about 36 bars.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    cloves
  • 1/4 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • TOPPING:

  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/4 c
    flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter..melted
  • 1 Tbsp
    cinnamon

How to Make Self Frosted Spice Bars

Step-by-Step

  1. In a large saucepan,combine sugar & next 7 ingredients.
    Bring to a boil; boil gently 3 minutes.Cool
    Add remaining ingredients(except topping) Blend well.
  2. Spread batter evenly in a greased 15"x10"pan.
  3. Combine Toppings; spread evenly over batter.Press down lightly.
  4. Bake 350 degrees...20-25 minutes; Cool;Cut into bars.
  5. May also be served warm with ice cream.
