self frosted spice bars

These are made in a 15" X 10" jelly roll pan,so it makes about 36 bars.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • TOPPING:
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter..melted
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

How To Make self frosted spice bars

  • Step 1
    In a large saucepan,combine sugar & next 7 ingredients. Bring to a boil; boil gently 3 minutes.Cool Add remaining ingredients(except topping) Blend well.
  • Step 2
    Spread batter evenly in a greased 15"x10"pan.
  • Step 3
    Combine Toppings; spread evenly over batter.Press down lightly.
  • Step 4
    Bake 350 degrees...20-25 minutes; Cool;Cut into bars.
  • Step 5
    May also be served warm with ice cream.
