I have been making these cookies for my family and friends for about 15 years. They are always a big hit and the "secret ingredient" of frosted flakes gives them extra flavor and texture that everyone really enjoys.

all purpose flour
1 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
1/2 c
unsalted butter
1/2 c
solid vegetable shortening
1 c
3/4 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp
vanilla extract
2 c
quick cooking oats
1 3/4 c
frosted flakes

How to Make Secret Ingredient Oatmeal Cookies


  • 1Heat oven to 325*.
  • 2Combine flour, baking powder, soda, and salt; set aside.
  • 3Cream butter and shortening on low speed of a mixer until light and fluffy.
  • 4Gradually add sugar and brown sugar, beating well at medium speed.
  • 5Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • 6Add flour mixture, mixing well.
  • 7Stir in oats and flakes.
  • 8Drop dough with a cookie scoop onto a greased pan. (I use foil and cooking spray for this.)
  • 9Bake for 12 minutes or until golden.
  • 10Allow to fully cool on wire racks.
