Always a big hit at our house. I think they are my favorite. Rolling the tops in sugar keeps the cookies from sticking to the fork or thumb when flattening. I use the thumbprint when I want to put a Hershey's kiss as a topper for special occasions. Either way they are sure to be a big hit with the family.

Ingredients

1/2 c
granulated sugar
1/2 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c
peanut butter
1/4 c
shortening
1/4 c
butter or margarine, softened
1 large
egg
1 1/4 c
flour
3/4 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
baking powder
1/4 tsp
salt

How to Make Peanut Butter Cookies

Step-by-Step

  • 1Mix sugars, peanut butter, shortening, butter, eggs til creamy.
  • 2Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • 3Refrigerate for 2 hours until firm
  • 4Form into walnut sized balls and roll tops in sugar. Flatten with fork in traditional pattern or press thumbprint.
  • 5Bake at 375 degrees for 9-10 minutes.
  • 6Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Remove from cookie sheet to rack or parchment paper to cool. Add Hershey's kiss if desired.
