My friend Mary worked in Mrs. Field's cookie shop in the mall to pay for college. She gave me her version of this recipe, that is like they actually used in the shop, which is why this batch makes so many cookies!

Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup solid vegetable shortening
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter (do not substitute margarine)
- 4 - eggs
- 6 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 4 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- - additional sugar for dipping
How To Make mrs. fields sugar cookies (14 dozen)

Step 1In a large bowl, cream sugars, shortening and butter. Add eggs, mix well. In another bowl, combine flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Gradually add to sugar mixture, beating after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Roll dough into 1" balls. Dip balls in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees about 10 min. Cookies will have little cracks on top. Makes 14 dozen. These cookies can be frozen.
