This is my mom's recipe. She is known in her church for making these for bake sales.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
With a light molasses flavor, these old-fashioned cookies are an absolute dream to eat. They have the flavor and spices of a molasses cookie, like ground ginger, cinnamon and clove, with walnuts and raisins mixed in. When baked, they're slightly crisp on the outside and chewy inside. An egg wash adds a nice sheen to the hermit cookies.
Preheat oven to 375 F. In a medium bowl, cream together the Crisco, white sugar, and light brown sugar. Add beaten eggs and set aside.
In a separate bowl, mix together dry ingredients.
Add dry mixture to creamed mixture and mix well.
Mix in coffee and molasses.
Stir in raisins and nuts.
Use a small ice cream scoop to make cookies or drop by tablespoons on greased cookie sheet.
Mix 1 egg white with 1 tablespoon of water. Brush top of cookies with eggwash.
Bake for 10-15 minutes.
