1/2 c
margerine or shortening
1 tsp
1 3/4 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
baking soda
2 1/2 c
1 1/2 tsp

How to Make Molasses Cookies aka Mule Muffins


  • 1Heat molasses to boiling and remove from heat.
  • 2Mix in margarine or shortening and soda.
  • 3Sift flour, baking powder, salt and ginger together and mix in.
  • 4Chill dough well.
  • 5Roll these out thin (1/16-1/8")and cut out to desired shape. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 5-7 minutes. Overcooking can result in a slight bitter flavor, but they get eaten just the same.
