These are favorites of mine! Mom filled the thumbprints with homemade icing rather than jelly. This recipe is never enough; at least double it!

Ingredients For madeleine's thumb print cookies

  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 1
    egg yolk
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • egg whites
  • chopped pecans

How To Make madeleine's thumb print cookies

  • 1
    Mix butter, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Sift flour and salt together and stir into above. Roll into small balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg whites. Roll into pecans. Bake 1" apart on ungreased sheet pan at 375 degrees. Bake 5 min. Make thumb print and bake an additional 8 min. Cool and ice.
