grandma's ginger molasses cookies

This has been my favorite cookie for as long as I can remember! They come out of the oven crisp, then soften overnight into the most incredible cookie you'll ever eat!

Makes 3 1/2 to 4 dozen cookies
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ginger, ground
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
- 1/2 teaspoon clove, ground
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup shortening, butter flavor or regular
- 1 - egg
- 4 tablespoons molasses
How To Make grandma's ginger molasses cookies

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2Sift together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Set aside.

Step 3Cream sugar and shortening; add egg and molasses. Add dry mixture, blending well. Dough will be soft.

Step 4Roll dough in small balls, shake gently in a plastic bag filled with 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Balls will flatten in oven.

Step 5Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until very light brown. Do not over bake. Let cool for 10 minutes then move to an air-tight container or cookie jar. Cookies will be soft the next day.
