This has been my favorite cookie for as long as I can remember! They come out of the oven crisp, then soften overnight into the most incredible cookie you'll ever eat!

Ingredients

2 c
flour
2 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
ginger, ground
1 tsp
cinnamon, ground
1/2 tsp
clove, ground
1/2 tsp
nutmeg
1 c
sugar
3/4 c
shortening, butter flavor or regular
1
egg
4 Tbsp
molasses

How to Make Grandma's Ginger Molasses Cookies

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2Sift together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Set aside.
  • 3Cream sugar and shortening; add egg and molasses. Add dry mixture, blending well. Dough will be soft.
  • 4Roll dough in small balls, shake gently in a plastic bag filled with 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Balls will flatten in oven.
  • 5Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until very light brown. Do not over bake. Let cool for 10 minutes then move to an air-tight container or cookie jar. Cookies will be soft the next day.
