These were some of my favorite cookies when I was a little girl. This recipe actually comes from my Grandma Hetland's mom. She came from the Egeland family. Very Norwegian.

How to Make Grandma Hetland's Molasses Cookies


  1. Blend molasses, sugar and shortening. Add egg and spices. mix until combined then add flour.
  2. My grandmother did not give a measurement for flour. So I estimated. Her exact words, "put in enough flour to handle and make into balls. Keep the dough soft."
  3. Make into balls, press with a glass and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350* for 10 minutes.
