gramma's cherry winks

My grandmother had the biggest sweet tooth I've ever seen. She always had at least three different kinds of sweets/baked goods on the counter at one time. She loved these cookies and made them, I think, mostly for herself, all the time. My sister loved cherries and couldn't get enough. Enjoy~

Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1/3 cup chopped maraschino cherries
- 2 1/2 cups corn flakes, slightly crushed
- 1 cup maraschino cherries, quartered, you may need more to top each cookie

Step 1Pre-heat oven at 375. Sift Flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside. Cream together shortening and sugar together until creamy, blend in eggs, one at a time, add milk and vanilla, mix until blended, a minute or two.

Step 2Blend in sifted ingredients, a quarter at a time and mix well. Add in pecans, dates, and chopped maraschino cherries and mix well.

Step 3Shape dough into balls using a level tablespoon. Roll each ball of dough in the corn flakes. Place on greased baking sheet. Top each cookie with a quarter maraschino cherry. Bake in oven 10-12 minutes. Enjoy~ *NOTE* DO NOT STACK OR STORE COOKIES UNTIL COLD.
