I was hunting for cookie recipes that use Crisco Shortening and this one looked interesting.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 - large egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 1/2 cups flour unbleached, unsifted
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
How To Make spice cookies (gewurzplatzchen)

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2In a large bowl, cream together the butter, shortening and brown sugar until completely mixed. Stir in the egg and molasses until completely incorporated.

Step 3Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, and spices. Stir into the sugar mixture until completely mixed in.

Step 4Scoop out the cookie dough using a spoon and form into 3/4-inch balls.

Step 5Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass that has been greased and dipped into sugar.

Step 6Bake in preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes. Let cookies cool completely on racks then store in airtight containers.
