One of my Grandma's favorite things to bake with was dates, he's another one of her many Date recipes

Ingredients

1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
3 - eggs
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- date filling:
2 cups dates cut up
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water

How To Make date cookies (filled jumbo drops)

Step 1

DATE FILLING: add dates, sugar, and water. Cook until thick may add nuts when cool. Cool mixture.

Step 2

Mix shortening, brown sugar, eggs. Stir in water and vanilla. Sift together and stir in flour, soda, salt and cinnamon. Drop with teaspoonful onto ungreased baking sheets. Place 1/2 tsp. filling on dough cover with 1/2 tsp. dough. Bake 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
