Momma's old fashioned chocolate cookie that you can adapt to your family's likes. The pecan halves are completely optional. You could also put a few chocolate or peanut butter chips or half a caramel on the cookies instead of the pecan halves.

1 3/4 call purpose flour

1/2 tspbaking soda

1/2 ccocoa, unsweetened

1/2 cvegetable shortening

1 csugar

15 lgmarshmallows

2/3 cpecan halves, optional

1 1/2 cconfectioners' sugar

1/2 ccocoa, unsweetened

1/3 cbutter, melted

3 Tbspwater, hot
How To Make chocolate cuckoo cookies

1Preheat oven to 375°. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa together in a medium bowl. Set aside. Cut large marshmallows in half to make thinner circles.

2In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening, and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture and blend well.

3Drop by teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and, working quickly, top each cook with one half of a marshmallow topped with one pecan half, LIGHTLY pressing into cookie. Return to the oven and bake 4 minutes more. Remove from oven and cool completely before glazing.

4For glaze, whisk together the confectioners sugar and cocoa. Add melted butter and hot water and whisk until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cookies and let glaze before storing.
