Great cookies for Christmas trays or for Valentines Day! Cooking time is10 to 12 minutes per cookie sheet, total time would depend on your oven size.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 - egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 jars maraschino cherries, undrained (10 ounce jars)
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1/1/22 cup sweetened condensed milk

How To Make chocolate-covered cherry cookies

  • Step 1
    Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer. Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
  • Step 2
    Combine flour and the next 3 ingredients; stir well. Gradually add to the creamed mixture, beating well.
  • Step 3
    Shape the dough into 1 inch balls; place on ungreased cookie sheets. Press thumb into each ball of dough, leaving an indentation. Drain cherries, reserving 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon juice. Press 1 cherry into indentation of each cookie.
  • Step 4
    Combine the reserved cherry juice, chocolate morsels, and milk in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate melts. Spread about 1 teaspoon frosting over each cherry.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Let cool completely on the cookie sheets.
