This is one of my Grandma's recipes . I have not personally made these but have ate them many times when I was growing up.

They are very good and if someone doesn't like chocolate the carob is powder from the ground seeds and pods of the carob tree; used as a chocolate substitute.

Carob is rich in calcium, potassium and phosphorus. It is used as a natural sweet to take the place of sugar, chocolate and cocoa.

Ingredients

  • CREAM TOGETHER :

  • 1/2 c
    honey
  • 1 tsp
    lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    oil
  • 1/4 c
    margarine
  • 2/3 c
    carob powder ; a chocolate substitute
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • SIFT TOGETHER :

  • 1 1/4 c
    (pre-sifted) flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    walnuts (or raisins)
  • FOR THE TOPPING :

  • ·
    coconut for garnish

How to Make Carob Brownies

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix the creamed and dry mixture together until creamy.
  2. Pour onto a flat cake pan and bake at 325° - 350° for 20 - 25 minutes .
  3. Sprinkle the top with coconut , cut into squares and serve .
