This recipe is from an old Fannie Farmer Cookbook I bought not long after I married. My Dad and my husband loved them so I would make them every year at Christmas and in-between. They are chewy and nourishing. Give them a try!

1/2 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
1/2 tsp
egg, lightly beaten
1 c
1/2 c
melted shortening
1/2 c
melted butter
1 Tbsp
1/4 c
whole milk
1 3/4 c
uncooked oatmeal
1/2 c
raisins which have been soaked in vanilla to soften
1/2 c
chopped nuts (i make with pecans - use your favorite)

How to Make Cape Cod Oatmeal Cookies


  • 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2Mix the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt together in a large bowl. Stir in the remaining ingredients.
  • 3Arrange by teaspoonfuls on unbuttered cookie sheets and bake until the edges are brown, about 12 minutes.
