- 1 cup butter flavored shortening
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1/2 cup sugar

Step 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Thoroughly mix together shortening, powdered sugar, egg, and extracts. Blend in the flour and salt. Place half the dough in another bowl. Add red food coloring a little at a time until desired color. Shape each bowl of dough into a long rope. Place ropes beside each other and press together. Twist ropes together. Cut into 4 inch sections. Bend into candy cane shape. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake about 8 min. Dust with sugar while hot. Makes 3 1/2-4 dozen cookie canes.
