Also called powdered sugar cookies. These are excellent!

Make these at Christmas for sure!

For a double recipe, I use 1 1/2 cups butter and 1/2 cup home-rendered lard.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    powdered sugar
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 1 c
    chopped nutmeats
  • 1 c
    butter, room temperature
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract

How to Make Butter Ball Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix like pie crust; add egg, salt, vanilla.
  2. Stir nutmeats into dough or top each with a half of a pecan.
  3. Roll into walnut-size balls. Flatten very slightly.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Cool. Roll in powdered sugar.

    Store in airtight container.
