I was an elementary school secretary for 12 years while my sons were in school and this recipe came from the PTO cookbooklet they published. I make this fairly often but especially in the fall when the new apples come out. Enjoy

Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup white wheat or whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup splenda brown sugar
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 - eggs
- 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
- 1 1/2 cups chopped unpeeled apples
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3/4 teaspoon maple flavoring (optional)
How To Make better for you fresh apple cookies

Step 1Mix flours and baking soda together. Mix shortening, brown sugars, salt, spices and eggs until well blended.

Step 2Add flour mixture, nuts, raisins and apples. Blend in milk and maple flavoring, if using.

Step 3Drop by large spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 deg. for 11-14 minutes until medium brown in color. Cool on racks.

Step 4There is a glaze if you choose to use it. Blend 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar, 1 Tbl. margarine or crisco, 1/4 tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 Tbl. milk. If desired, 1/2 to 3/4 tsp. of maple flavoring can be added to glaze. Sread on cookies while warm.
