This recipe came from a newspaper many years ago to be made for Valentine's Day ~ they were heart shaped. The flavor of the almond is wonderful and they come out crisp on the outside !

  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 c
  • 2 c
  • 1
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    almond extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract

  • 1
    egg yolk beaten
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 60
    shelled almonds

How to Make Almond Cookie Cut Outs


  1. Pre heat oven 375 DF
    Sift flour with baking powder into large bowl. Add shortening, sugar almond and vanilla extracts, salt and beaten egg. Knead the mixture until thoroughly combined.
  2. Turn dough onto an unfloured surface. Lightly pat into 1/4" thickness with a floured 2 1/2 " heart shaped (or any shape) cookie cutter, cut out cookies.
  3. Place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
    Combine the egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of water. Brush on top and press one almond in center of each.
  4. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown around edges.
