Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (not margarine)
  • 1-1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2-1/2 cup salted cashews, finely chopped
  • 5 - hershey plain milk chocolate bar (1.55 oz size) broken into pieces

How To Make toffee bars by sallye

  • Step 1
    Butter a 12" x 18" sheet pan and set aside In a large nonstick skillet, combine the butter, sugar, water and corn syrup Cook over medium high heat until mixture turns a dark carmel color Add the vanilla and cashews and mix well Pour onto the buttered sheet pan and spread evenly Immediately top with the broken chocolate bars When the chocolate melts, spread the mixture evenly with a knife or spatula
  • Step 2
    Cool for several hours or overnight Break into individual pieces for serving Plate on festive serving platter or store in airtight container until ready to use
  • Step 3
    Note: Other types of nuts may be used, but the salted cashews give these an "authentic" flavor.
