sleigh balls - date balls
If there's one treat that reminds me of Christmas and my mom making something great, it's these crunchy sweet date balls. The little red sleigh is a precious wooden thing she painted. It was probably painted by her in the 1950s. I have other items she stenciled. I just decided to rename the date balls "Sleigh Balls" and will serve them in the sleigh this Christmas!

Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 - egg, beaten lightly
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 cups rice krispies
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 package angel flake coconut
How To Make sleigh balls - date balls

Step 1Place butter,dates, sugar in double boiler and stir to blend then add the beaten egg, continue stirring until incorporated. Then cover and cook ten minutes, stirring occasionaly.

Step 2Remove bowl from boiler, let cool, when not too hot add vanilla, salt,chopped nuts and rice krispies. Place the coconut flakes in a pie plate or rectangular baking dish. Spoon the mixture and roll into small balls, about an inch then roll in coconut firmly packing. Place in a covered container.
