Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup blanched, slivered almonds
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon white corn syrup
  • 4 - plain hershey bars (not king size)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

How To Make meja (sallye)

  • Step 1
    Melt butter in a cast iron skillet. Add almonds, sugar, water and corn syrup Cook on high flame, stirring constantly
  • Step 2
    Have some dark brown sugar sitting on the cabinet Cook candy until it is one shade darker than the sugar sitting on cabinet
  • Step 3
    Immediately pour and spread on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper Break chocolate bars on top of hot candy and spread over candy Sprinkle with pecans
  • Step 4
    Cool and break into pieces and enjoy
