Every Christmas my MIL makes these...it wouldn't be the same without them. I think these are my FIL's favorite home made candy. LOL I have put regular measurements in parenthesis.

Ingredients

  • 1 qt
    pecans chopped (4 cups)
  • 1 stick
    butter (1/2 cup)
  • 1 can(s)
    sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 box
powdered sugar ( 2 pounds or about 8 cups)
  • 1 can(s)
    coconut (3 1/2 ounces or 1 1/3 cups)***see note

How to Make Martha Washingtons

Step-by-Step

  1. Pour milk over ingredients and mix. Chill overnight.
  2. Roll into balls about the size of marbles.
  3. Dip the balls into two melted large bags of chocolate chips blended with 1/2 block of cooking paraffin.
Really, any sort of dipping chocolate will do. I often use chocolate almond bark.
  4. NOTE***Back in the day (and I'm told even still in some places) coconut came in a can. It is grated coconut, not coconut milk. I entered the recipe exactly as my MIL gave it to me, the put the actual measurements in parenthesis.
