Ingredients For homemade black flavored licorice

  • 2 c
    cane sugar
  • 1 c
    corn syrup, dark
  • 1/2 c
    dark molasses
  • 1 c
    sweetened condensed milk, not evaporated milk
  • 1 c
    butter
  • dash of salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    anise oil or about 2-3 tablespoons anise extract

How To Make homemade black flavored licorice

    Combine in a heavy saucepan over medium heat the sugar, molasses and corn syrup; mix well.

    Add sweetened condensed milk, butter and salt. Stir constantly.

    Bring mixture to a boil and gently boil to 232° on candy thermometer.

    Stir in anise oil and remove from heat.

    Pour into a foil lined greased foil 9x13-inch pan.

    Cool at room temperature for 10 minutes then place in refrigerator for a few minutes.

    Cut into bite size pieces and wrap in waxed paper or cellophane.
