My late Mother in law made this every Christmas.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup light karo syrup
  • 1 (1 oz) bottle flavoring oil ( we like cinnamon)
  • - food coloring ( add drops to reach desired color)

How To Make hard candy

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients and cook until temperature reaches 300 degrees.
  • Step 2
    Remove from heat and add food coloring. Mix well, then add flavoring oil.( the whole bottle): mix well.
  • Step 3
    Pour into shallow pan with sides. Let stand until cool and hard.
  • Step 4
    Break into pieces and coat with powdered sugar.
  • Step 5
    Store in candy dish or jar.
