1 cgranulated sugar

1 cbutter - not oleo/margarine

2 Tbspwater
-
1 tspvanilla
-
6 ozsemi sweet chocolate chips
-
1/2 cchopped walnuts - optional
How to Make English Toffee
- Butter a large glass or metal cookie sheet that has sides.
- Place sugar, butter and water in a heavy saucepan.
Bring to a boil; stir constantly. Cook until mixture reaches 320 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy thermometer. - Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and mix well.
Pour onto cookie sheet. - Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot candy. As chocolate softens, spread over candy, then sprinkle with finely chopped walnuts.
When cooled, crack into pieces.
