Seems I only make this at Christmas time. It is very good and the recipe doubles easily.

1 c
granulated sugar
1 c
butter - not oleo/margarine
2 Tbsp
1 tsp
6 oz
semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c
chopped walnuts - optional

How to Make English Toffee


  • 1Butter a large glass or metal cookie sheet that has sides.
  • 2Place sugar, butter and water in a heavy saucepan.
    Bring to a boil; stir constantly. Cook until mixture reaches 320 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy thermometer.
  • 3Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and mix well.
    Pour onto cookie sheet.
  • 4Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot candy. As chocolate softens, spread over candy, then sprinkle with finely chopped walnuts.
    When cooled, crack into pieces.
