Seems I only make this at Christmas time. It is very good and the recipe doubles easily.

Ingredients For english toffee

  • 1 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1 c
    butter - not oleo/margarine
  • 2 Tbsp
    water
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 6 oz
    semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts - optional

How To Make english toffee

    Butter a large glass or metal cookie sheet that has sides.

    Place sugar, butter and water in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil; stir constantly. Cook until mixture reaches 320 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy thermometer.

    Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and mix well. Pour onto cookie sheet.

    Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot candy. As chocolate softens, spread over candy, then sprinkle with finely chopped walnuts. When cooled, crack into pieces.
