Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup butter - not oleo/margarine
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 6 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts - optional
How To Make english toffee

Step 1Butter a large glass or metal cookie sheet that has sides.

Step 2Place sugar, butter and water in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil; stir constantly. Cook until mixture reaches 320 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy thermometer.

Step 3Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and mix well. Pour onto cookie sheet.

Step 4Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot candy. As chocolate softens, spread over candy, then sprinkle with finely chopped walnuts. When cooled, crack into pieces.
