If you have never tasted homemade caramel corn you're in for a treat. It's positively yummy!

prep time 20 Min
cook time 1 Hr 5 Min
method ---
yield 6-10 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 quarts popcorn, popped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup stick margarine (origional recipe called for oleo)
  • 1/4 cup light karo syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

How To Make caramel corn

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 225 degrees. Mix and boil for 5 minutes (timing is important) the brown sugar, margarine, Karo syrup and salt. Remove from heat and add baking soda and stir. Pour over popped corn and mix. Cook in preheated oven for 1 hour. Stir at 15 minute intervals. This process helps bond the caramel to the popcorn. NOTES: Be careful, this is very hot. Also, I found using one of those disposable baking aluminum pans make clean-up a breeze. Put a cookie sheet under the pan for stability.
