This actually is a christmas cookie recipe from Thuringia, where it is called "peat" because it looks like peat. It's a very rich cookie which strongly resembles a brownie.

Ingredients
- 1 pound baking chocolate
- 4 tablespoons water
- 7 ounces sugar
- 6 - eggs
- 1/2 cup butter plus
- 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 pound flour
- 1 dash baking powder
How To Make thuringian brownies

Step 1Melt chocolate with 4 T water over low heat, over double boiler or in the microwave, if using.

Step 2Separate eggs, beat egg whites stiff.

Step 3Preheat oven to 350°F.

Step 4Cream together sugar, egg yolks and butter. Stir in melted chocolate, add flour and baking powder.

Step 5Fold in stiff egg whites.

Step 6Spread on cookie sheet, about 1 inch thick, and bake for about 25-30 minutes. Cube while still warm.
