Ingredients
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups cake flour, plus 2 tablespoons cake flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 5 - egg yolks
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 7 - egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 2 - egg yolks
- 3 cups milk
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
How To Make sponge cake and filling, mom

Step 1Mix powder, salt, 2 cups plus 2 T cake flour and sugar. Add 5 egg yolks, water, oil, lemon extract, and vanilla. Mix well. Whip egg whites until stiff and add cream of tartar. Mix well. Fold batter into egg whites lightly. Mix egg yolks, milk and sugar, and add heaping tablespoons of cornstarch when milk comes to a boil. This is the filling. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour in large pan.
