sauerkraut surprise cake

I have had this recipe for a number of years, it's always fun to see the look on everyones face when thay find out the cake has saurekraut in it.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3 - eggs
- 2 cups flour sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup ( 8 oz can ) sauerkraut drained, rinsed, and chopped
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
How To Make sauerkraut surprise cake

Step 1In a large bowl cream butter, and sugar till light. beat in eggs one at a time, add vanilla.

Step 2sift together flour, baking powder, and baking soda,salt,and cocoa. add to cream mixture, and alternately with water, beating after each addition.stir in the sauerkraut.

Step 3pour into 9x13" baking pan, bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. cool in pan then frost ( with sour cream chocolate frosting.)

Step 4SOUR CREAM CHOCOLATE FROSTING : melt one ( 6 oz ) package semisweet chocolate pieces and 4 tablespoons butter over low heat. remove, blend in 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 teaspoon salt. gradually add sifted confectionery"s sugar ( 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 cups) to make spreading consistency, beat well.
