    margarine
  • 3
    granny smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 c
    light brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 c
    butterscotch ice cream topping, divided
  • 4 tsp
    sea salt, divided
  • 1 c
    butterscotch chips
  • 1 c
    peanut butter chips
  • 1 box
    butter golden cake mix
  • 3/4 c
    water
  • 3
    large eggs
  • 7 Tbsp
    melted margarine
  • 1 c
    fresh blueberries
  • 6
    butterscotch candies, unwrapped and crushed
  • MINTY SALTED BUTTERSCOTCH FROSTING
  • 1 tube
    frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 3 tsp
    mint extract
  • 1 pkg
    butterscotch instant pudding mix
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 c
    butterscotch syrup
  • 2 tsp
    sea salt

How To Make salted butterscotch apple and blueberry cake

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 13"x9" baking dish with cooking spray.

    To make the cake, melt the margarine in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced apples and brown sugar. Saute for 5 minutes until the apples are caramelized.

    Remove from heat. Stir in 3/4 cup butterscotch ice cream topping and 2 teaspoons sea salt until well blended.

    Spoon into a prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with butterscotch and peanut butter chips.

    In a large bowl, combine cake mix, water, eggs, melted margarine and remaining butterscotch ice cream topping and sea salt.

    Beat on low speed for 2 minutes until blended. Pour onto sauteed apple mixture in the baking dish. Add blueberries.

    Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted the center comes out clean. Cool completely for 15 minutes.

    To make the frosting, combine whipped topping, mint extract, pudding mix, cream cheese, butterscotch syrup and sea salt in a medium bowl. Whisk well for 2 minutes until creamy and smooth.

    Spread evenly onto a cooled cake. Sprinkle with crushed butterscotch candies.
